A patient describes how LASIK has improved his quality of life.
Well, I began wearing glasses when I was 8 years old and at 8 years old that is a pretty critical age where you are made fun of, no matter what you look like, your weight, your hair, your eyes, so it’s definitely called 15 for eyes a lot especially that I was an actress and I wanted to make acting my career, I knew I could not depend on wearing glasses and having to bother myself with putting contacts and taking them off, cleaning them, putting them away, etc., etc. I am the reigning Ms. New York USA 2007 that allowed me to represent the State of New York at the Ms. USA pageant, but before that and the reason I so badly wanted the LASIK was six years ago I was Ms. New York teen USA 2001 and I competed out Ms. Teen USA and that was held in Texas and I knew I was going to spend two weeks there and with the weather in Texas; it is really hot, it is really humid, I knew I was going to have early days of rehearsals and photo shoots and interviews. Sometimes I only had about three to four hours of sleep a day and I knew I did not want to waste half of my time waking up to put on my contacts or my glasses. So, basically that was the big push to come here and get the LASIK. The procedure itself took about six minutes and as soon as I sat up from the chair I was able to tell the time off the clock that was on the wall which was amazing because usually I would have to wake up and stumble to find my glasses, just to make sure I was running on time for school and the recovery was beautiful. I went to school the next day and was able to read the blackboard, which was probably something I could not do since I was 7 years old. It is life changing. It is beautiful to be able to wake up in the morning and actually open your eyes and not have to squint or not have to bother looking for your glasses or contact lenses. It really is amazing to be able to see things the way they are meant to be seen.
